For the final exercise we are to compose a still life with red, yellow, green and blue items (along with a grey card) and then experiment with red, yellow, green and blue filters to uderstand the effect they have on an image.
Original.
Neutral.
Red filter.
With the red filter applied it allows the light from the red pepper to pass through, but blocks the others. This has resulted in the red pepper appearing lighter but the green pepper and blue background look darker. The yellow pepper has not really been affected.
Green filter.
The green pepper is appearing lighter as more green light passes through, the yellow also appears a little lighter. The red and blue seem darker, particularly the red which is almost black.
Yellow filter.
Obviously the yellow pepper has been made lighter, all of the other colours are a lot darker.
Blue filter.
In this instance every colour has become darker accept blue which is much lighter, as more blue light passes through.
I have found this exercise quite difficult as while I have had photoshop a while now, I have not really used it much. The course notes did not match up to the photoshop I had and while I could then alter the level of red, green and blue, there was no option to change the yellow. In the end I have downloaded a trial of Photoshop CS5 and after playing around for a while, finally worked out how to create the effect. When brightening each filter colour I have quite drastically lowered the brightness of the ohter sliders so that I can see a more pronounced effect. This exercise has probably taught me the most so far and I have really been able to see how you can emphasise particular objects in a black and white scene by controlling tone.
