A photographer I know was selling a brand new Canon G12, hadn't even been out of the box, so I could hardly refuse. I had been thinking for a while that whilst I love my Nikon d90, sometimes is size can be a bit of a hindrance when I want to go to certain places. I wanted a smaller camera that still allowed me to control the settings as opposed to being a small point and press.
I had agreed to buy the G12 before I had read any reviews on it! I think that I may have been a bit too keen. Anyway, I then started researching online about the camera and what other photographers thought about it. Every review I found only had good things to say so I felt I had made the right decision.
I decided to give it its first outing on Friday 17th as I was going horse racing in Newmarket, the July Racecourse also had their 'Newmarket Nights' on so that had Jessie J performing. I had only picked the camera up that morning so it was a bit of a rush to charge it and check I had and SD card that would fit. Luckily it was charged in time and I was ready to go. I had time to read the manual before leaving but I actually found it to be no help what so ever is it tended to focus on the auto setting and basic functions.
Once out with it I found that I was spending a lot of time playing around with the settings and found it quite challenging. I was not really particularly happy with and of the images I took. To be honest it probably was not the best idea taking it out at such short notice when I was not comfortable using it but this did force me to try to get to grips with it.
Much more practice is needed so I think I will carry it around with me for a while so that using it becomes second nature, like it has done with the Nikon.
